THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

R   Realize I am not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing
and my life is unmanageable.
(Principle 1, Step 1)

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5:3

E   Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter  to Him, and that He has the power to help
me recover.
(Principle 2, Step 2)

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”  Matthew 5:4

C     Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.  (Principle 3, Step 3)

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”  Matthew 5:5

O   Openly examine and confess my faults to God,  to myself, and to another person whom I trust.
    (Principle 4, Steps 4 & 5)

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”  Matthew 5:8

V   Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life.  (Principle 5, Steps 6 & 7)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”  Matthew 5:6

E  Evaluate all my relationships.  Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends
for harm I have done to others when possible, without expecting any reward.
(Principle 6, Steps 8 & 9)

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”  Matthew 5:9

R   Reserve a daily time for God for prayer, Bible reading and self-examination in order to know God
and His will for my life and to gain power to follow His will.
(Principle 7, Steps 10 & 11)

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

Y   Yield myself to be used by God to bring this Good News to others, both by my example
and by my words.
(Principle 8, Step 12)

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom
        of heaven. “  Matthew 5:10
