MISSION: Salt &
- Salt & Light prayer card
Good Friday is when the Light of the World was extinguished, and the land was shrouded in darkness. But the result would be a light that would shine in the hearts of all who believe — and through them to a world where there is so much darkness.
At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
Consider & Choose. Where might God be calling you to be salt and light? Consider the community organizations, social issues listed below. (This would be a good opportunity to "press pause" and ask God which you are being called to focus on.)
Pray. Spend a moment praying for the organization or issue you have chosen. You might pray:
"God, you designed me to be salt and light in this world. Today I pray for ____________. Show me how you want me to be involved and give me the courage to shine."
Record & Commit. Write down this name on your "Salt & Light" prayer card. Commit to praying for them and to prayerfully responding to whatever opportunities arise. Consider finding out more about it this season.
Make it personal. Also consider if there might be a person God is inviting you to share light with. Write this name on the other side of your prayer card and commit to praying for this person and responding to whatever opportunities arise.
